Phil, i am half way through your book, which picked up by chance from the library yesterday. I am learning an enormous amount. Always conscious of my “luck” of being born and raised in Australia etc etc I hate the fact that our leaders and our policies are so mean and cynical and that many people I know are so fearful and defensive in relation to the fate of refugees. And it feels as though its getting worse. I wanted to ask, are things better over there?
Hi. Thanks for the comment and glad you are reading my book! Get all your friends to buy copies!
I am not sure things are getting better, though they are not getting always worse. The major issue these days is the inequalities of power and wealth, lack of trust in the Government, and ongoing anger at the occupation. I think Afghanistan is going through a huge gear crunch as it tries to lurch forward, but no one really knows how to drive this particular vehicle; nor if it is indeed roadworthy – to stretch the metaphor. I guess we still have a sense of hope for this place though.
Incredible… a revolution is staged to instate a new tyranny…
